Meditation as a way to listen to God
Meditation is a silent prayer from the quiet, secret, innermost place within ourselves. It is an act of surrender as well as a practice of sublime enjoyment.
This short-term group is for anyone who would like to start meditating for the first time, or for those who want to deepen their existing practice.
We will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30–8PM at the Marda Loop parish, October 13–November 3.
The group is open to anyone attending Kensington or Marda Loop.
Each meeting will have some introduction and guidance, as well as time to share our experiences and Q&A.
We will sit for 15-25m at a time and you are encouraged to bring whatever you need to be as comfortable as possible. You can sit in a chair, sit on the floor, or even lie down.
- Week 1 will be about getting to know each other and the basics of meditation
- Week 2 will introduce the practice of focus (or concentration)
- Week 3 will cover observation (or mindfulness)
- Week 4 will build upon those skills as we explore deep contemplation
This group is led by Scott Bell, who has been meditating for nearly 10 years and has studied and practiced with many teachers from a variety of traditions. He recently moved back to Calgary after many years abroad and began attending Commons at the beginning of 2026.
